Preston North End: Whites Get Back to Winning Ways

Leeds record three goal victory.

EFL Sky Bet Championship

Leeds United 3 (Roofe 18, Hernandez 45, Doukara 90) Preston North End 0

Leeds United got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Preston North End at Elland Road.

The Whites almost got off to the worst possible start, Marnick Vermijl crossed into the box and the Whites had Rob Green to thank, making a super save from Tom Barkhuizen’s header.

At the following corner Barkhuizen had another opportunity to give Preston the lead, but he could only head straight at Green.

Leeds came close to countering superbly, Alfonso Pedraza did well down the left, before trying to play Kemar Roofe through on goal, but his pass was intercepted with a last ditch effort.

In the 13th minute Barkhuizen was played through on goal, one-on-one with Green, but the Preston forward let Leeds off the hook, putting his effort wide of the post.

Leeds took the lead with their first real chance of the game, Kemar Roofe played a great one-two with Chris Wood and his deflected effort looped over Preston stopper Chris Maxwell and into the back of the net.

Aiden McGeady tried his luck from range to try and equalise for the visitors, but his low effort was off target.

Ronaldo Vieira then put a great cross into the Preston box and Wood was just inches away from getting on the end of it.

Luke Ayling then drove an effort from range at goal, but Wood couldn’t get the crucial touch to send the shot on target.

Wood then thought he had doubled the Leeds lead, he went through one-on-one before slotting home, however after the celebrations were complete, the goal was eventually ruled out for offside.

Pedraza then did really well to get to the byline for Leeds, he teed up Roofe to try and score his second of the afternoon, but the forward scuffed his effort wide.

However Leeds did get a second goal before the break, Pablo Hernandez was played in on goal and he slid in, beating Maxwell to the ball and his effort eventually trickled over the line.

Half Time: Leeds United 2-0 Preston North End

Ten minutes into the second half, Leeds almost extended the lead from a corner. Hernandez delivered, Kyle Bartley headed down and Wood saw his effort denied by the crossbar.

Hernandez almost grabbed his second, he found space in the Preston box, but saw his effort deflect just wide.

From the resulting corner, Bartley headed at goal, but saw his effort cleared off the line by Ben Pearson.

Vieira was next to go close, he fired at goal from the edge of the box and he was only denied by a super save from Maxwell.

Preston substitute Jermaine Beckford was given a warm reception on his introduction, he tried his luck from range when he stole possession from Gaetano Berardi, but Green was equal to it.

The visitors should have pulled a goal back in the 76th minute, Green makes a great save to deny McGeady, then Barkhuizen fired the rebound against the crossbar, before Simon Makienok heads over, with the goal gaping.

Leeds substitutes Stuart Dallas and Souleymane Doukara then linked up well, with the latter going through on goal, however he couldn’t beat Maxwell, who deflected his effort wide of the post.

Alex Baptiste was then shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Hernandez, before Doukara sealed it late on, with a run from the right hand side, beating Maxwell at his near post, to cap off a great victory.

How the Three Dallas Cowboys No. 1 Overall Common Era Draft Picks Rank

In 1967, the NFL held its first “common era” draft, with both the AFL and NFL participating together. Since that time, there have been 50 overall #1 picks, starting with defensive lineman Bubba Smith and ending with quarterback Jared Goff in 2016. decided to go back and rank all 50 picks in a fun run through football history.
The Cowboys have had the overall #1 pick three times. As it turns out, they have done pretty well with no huge busts. Before we hit their picks, let’s take a look at some of the biggest busts. Most of the huge busts are on the list because of injuries. Guys like Steve Entman (1992), Ki-Jana Carter (1995), Tim Couch (1999, although some would argue talent, not injuries, wrecked his career). Probably the biggest busts that didn’t have some kind of injury associated with them were JaMarcus Russell (2007) and Aundray Bruce (1988). Check out the list, it’s a fun, quick read.
On to the Cowboys and their rankings.
30) Russell Maryland, defensive tackle
Drafted by: Dallas Cowboys, 1991.
Russell Maryland might have been the oddest No. 1 overall pick of the last 50 years. In 1991, the consensus top player in the country was Rocket Ismail. The speedster flew north to the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL, leaving Jimmy Johnson to take someone he was comfortable with in Maryland (his former player at Miami). Maryland was a fine defensive tackle in the NFL, winning three Super Bowl rings and making a Pro Bowl in a 10-year NFL career.
I’d say that’s a pretty fair evaluation for Maryland. Safety Eric Turner went #2 in that draft, receiver Herman Moore went at #10 and Brett Favre was picked at #33.
11) Ed “Too Tall” Jones, defensive end
Drafted by: Dallas Cowboys, 1974.
Not many people were scouting Tennessee State back in 1974, but former Cowboys personnel czar (and my colleague) Gil Brandt was. Dallas was rewarded for its interest in the 6-foot-9 Jones with 15 fine years. No player was ever better at anticipating and swatting down passes. Despite being overshadowed by Hall of Fame teammate Randy White, Jones made three straight Pro Bowls from 1981 to ’83.
That’s a nice ranking for “Too Tall” Jones. I sometimes forget that he was a number one pick, but he was, and the Cowboys were definitely taking a risk going small school here. Of course it paid off in the end. Danny White was selected with the first pick of the third round by Dallas in this draft. This was the draft that really set the Steelers up for their Super Bowl wins. They got Lynn Swann (#21), Jack Lambert (#46), John Stallworth (#82), and Mike Webster (#125). One of the best drafts ever.
5) Troy Aikman, quarterback
Drafted by: Dallas Cowboys, 1989.
Hard to believe that it was 28 years ago when Troy Aikman was drafted first overall by the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman was the first ever draft pick by Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones. After beginning his career with 11 straight losses, Aikman would eventually start (and win) three Super Bowls. He also posted an 11-5 playoff record in the process. Many league observers consider him the most accurate intermediate thrower they’ve ever seen. His leadership? Off the charts.
Yeah, that one worked out pretty well. Interesting note that the Cowboys also picked quarterback Steve Walsh as the top pick in that same year’s supplemental draft, he had played under Jimmy Johnson at Miami. Johnson liked competition, and Aikman won it, relegating Walsh to a footnote.
So who was ranked higher than Aikman’s #5?
What do you think of the rankings?

Before and After: Plans for the North Campus Mall Renovation

A $15 million renovation of the north end of campus will begin during winter break in December. Landscape architect Peter Walker’s campus enhancement plan will expand north from the McDermott Library to the Administration Building.
The project comes after the $30 million transformation of the south end of campus, which was completed in 2010.
Proposed changes to the less formal north end of the campus will include “cutting the pavement by half” and incorporating more green spaces, such as lawn terraces and elm groves, for a more park-like environment.
During the construction period, faculty, staff and students will be instructed about how to navigate across the north campus mall, including making use of the skywalk that connects the Administration Building with the Erik Jonsson Academic Center, Founders North and Founders Building, and Green Hall.

Frisco’s $5 Billion Mile Is Just Starting with Cowboys’ the Star

When you see construction cranes along the Dallas North Tollway north of State Highway 121, you’ve hit Frisco’s $5 billion mile.
Referring to a stretch of proposed real estate developments, the $5 billion mile is anchored at the south end by the Dallas Cowboys’ Star development and at the north end by the planned Gate mixed-use project.
That works out to something like $950,000 a foot in big property deals along the tollway between Warren Parkway and Lebanon Road.
Though only about a fifth of the proposed projects are under construction, that hasn’t kept Frisco from turning the idea into a major marketing campaign. Advertisements for Frisco and the $5 billion mile are popping up in financial publications touting the boom underway in the community.
“It’s taken on a life of its own, and the momentum that has been generated in such a short period of time has been incredible,” said Jim Gandy, president of the Frisco Economic Development Corp. “We have stepped up our marketing efforts on a regional and national and international basis.
“The recognition and notoriety of the $5 billion mile has far exceeded our expectations.”
In the late 1990s, Frisco began to transform from a sleepy farming and railroad community into one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Development spread north from State Highway 121 up Preston Road and along Dallas Parkway.
“Stonebriar mall opened in 2000, and there was an incredible amount of commercial retail development launched,” Gandy said. “With the mall and the Frisco Bridges development, it’s grown to more than 4.5 million square feet of retail and restaurant space.”
About the same time Stonebriar Centre mall was being built, developer Craig Hall began his 162-acre Hall Park office development at the tollway and Gaylord Parkway. The Hall development now has 16 office buildings with more than 2 million square feet of space. And plans are in the works for a hotel and shopping.
“This whole northern tier of the Dallas North Tollway is exploding like never before,” Gandy said.
The Cowboys’ $1.5 billion home is just the first of the $5 billion mile developments to open its doors.

Guide to Cleaning Before Moving into North End Apartments Dallas

So, you’ve found the North End apartments Dallas of your dreams, and in just a few short days, you’ll be moving in. You’ve probably done a bit of decluttering in your prior residence and your belongings are all packed up. Before you move into your new space, you may wish to do some cleaning to ensure the apartment unit is up to your standards. The management team may do some preliminary cleaning, but the rest is all up to you!

Do A Walk-Through

Before you officially move into your apartment unit, make sure to do a walk-through. Check all of the fixtures and appliances included in the unit to ensure they’re working properly. Take a notepad with you where you can record all of your findings, and should you find something not in working order, let the landlord or management team know.

What To Clean Before Moving In

*If the apartment has carpeting, make sure to properly vacuum. Once you’ve vacuumed, rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional to do it for you.

*Use disinfectant wipes to clean any surfaces present in the unit. Bathroom and kitchen countertops are especially susceptible to germs, not to mention, they’re always the last to be wiped down. Give the cabinets a quick clean too!

*Scrub the bathtub, toilet, and the sinks in the apartment using a cleaning agent that you trust. Don’t forget that any appliances that come with your unit should always be given special attention.

*Faucets should be checked for potential leaks and make sure that air vents are reasonably clean. Should air filters need replacement, let your landlord know.

After Moving In Cleaning

When you’re ready to move in and unpack your stuff, you should pay attention to keeping your apartment clean. Keep a vacuum handy to clean dust and dirt off the floor as you move your boxes inside. Depending on the lighting, you may also recognize some spots you may have missed the first time around.

Management teams rarely clean windows, so this is your chance to do so when you’re moved in. Just grab some newspaper or a microfiber cloth and some Windex, and you’re good to go. Pay special attention to nooks and crannies where dust can gather.

Moving into a new apartment can be an exciting time for all tenants. With that being said, you should be moving into a clean and allergen free space.
